Overview of a therapy - Schematherapy

Schema Therapy, known as a third wave Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), is an approach which explores past experiences and how they influence actions in the present time. Founded by Jeffrey Young it is a therapy that integrates many techniques to treat long-term disorders and long term relationship dilemmas.
​It is useful for targeting enduring themes that have people repeating maladaptive coping styles. It is considered a CBT because it focuses on developing healthy adult behaviours and thinking styles so that people can make better choices in life. It is particularly useful for those entrenched in bad decision making, harmful behaviours and damaging methods of self-soothing. This is one of the reasons why it has shown promising effects for those experiencing personality disorders.
