Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) uses a multidimensional approach and has been found to be a very effective treatment for Borderline Personality disorder.
The relationship between acceptance and change is the most prominent dialectic in which clients are assisted to accept themselves, their histories, and their situation while at the same time using a variety of cognitive behavioural methods to change thoughts, feelings and behaviours in order to improve quality of life. A wide range of mindfulness exercises are taught within DBT in order to bring together the concept of acceptance and change by teaching non-judgmental awareness of internal and external stimuli. |
