Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) is an evidence based approach that has been useful in working with individuals, couples and families. It is an adaptive approach which focuses on the development of emotional intelligence and on the importance of secure relationships.
It is designed to help people to understand, accept, express, manage and change their emotion in a way which improves their well-being.
Based on emotion, attachment and growth theory, EFT assists people to recognize which of their emotions are unhealthy and contributing to their current suffering and unhelpful behaviors and which emotions are helpful in promoting healthy functioning and behavior.
In this way people learn to transform and adapt negative and painful emotions into more positive and adaptive experiences that increase their overall well-being.
